Cherokee Nation Seeking National Treasures Nominations (4.00 / 1)
The Cherokee Nation will once again recognize Cherokee citizens with exceptional knowledge of Cherokee art forms and cultural practices, and is asking the public for nominations to consider for the 2010 Cherokee National Treasure Award. via Cherokee Nation News Release

Cherokee National Youth Choir Celebrates 10 Years (4.00 / 1)
The award-winning Cherokee National Youth Choir is celebrating ten years of music and performances. Throughout the 2010 the choir will make several appearances to perform, including a special anniversary concert to be held late this summer in conjunction with the 58th Cherokee National Holiday.

The choir will perform Thursday, August 5 at 7 p.m. at the Cornerstone Fellowship Church located at 718 Pendleton St. in Tahlequah. The concert will feature CNYC alumni and special guests.

Council Passes Resolution to Support Harper for U.S. Appeals Court (4.00 / 1)
The Cherokee Nation Tribal Council unanimously passed a resolution in support of the prospective nomination of Keith Harper, a Cherokee Nation citizen, to the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals during its monthly meeting held in Tahlequah.  If selected, Harper would be the first Native American to serve on the court.

Federal program credited with cutting diabetes among Indians (4.00 / 1)
Without help from Congress, effort could expire next year

WASHINGTON - A government program aimed at curbing the disproportionately high rate of diabetes among Native Americans has only one year left, and supporters are urging its renewal.

Flooded Rocky Boy's Reservation seeks disaster status. IHS sends $1 million in aid. Yankton Reservation also suffering. (4.00 / 1)
Both the Chippewa Cree Tribe in northern Montana and Sioux on the Yankton Reservation in South Dakota were hit hard by floods late last month. Apparently the state of Montana won't be able to provide help to the Rocky Boy's Reservation, so now they're hoping for a federal disaster declaration. American Indian College Fund This scholarship endowment has been established at the American Indian College Fund to honor Flora Sombrero Lind, as an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who was born at Inscription House, Arizona of the Many Goats clan circa 1925. This scholarship endowment is funded by Flora's family and friends who want to see Navajo students pursue higher education and carry on their great Navajo heritage.
